For workers, remaining decentred and influential when clients are in the midst of a crisis can be especially challenging. We may be inadvertently drawn into rescuing and protecting clients at times when great learning and growth might be possible. This workshop will explore the application of strengths based practice ideas about worker positioning will be explored as a guide to navigating crisis. The workshop will reconceptualise the concept of ‘crisis’, as moments of both ‘danger’ and ‘opportunity. The application of the principles, beliefs, skills and processes of a strengths approach using a prevention (before), intervention (during) and post-vention (after) framework will be explored. Priority is given to the naming and further development of the skills and knowledge used by workers when responding to these challenging events. A strengths based practice map will be offered as an additional resource. Attention will also be given to the development of worker support and development processes within organizations.
