Qld & North Qld Branch Conference 2009 “Social Work, From Scientism to Sophism: The Ethics of Evidence and the Evidence of Ethics”. 5-8 November 2009 At the Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Sunshine Coast. The Conference theme is explored through 3 streams: Stream 1: Practice Innovations and Solutions for Clinical Social Workers Stream 2: Communities as Centres of Engagement Stream 3: Social Work in Management and Leadership Keynote speakers include: •Professor Bob Lonne, AASW National President and Professor of Social Work, Faculty of Health, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Bob has a distinguished career in direct practice and managerial positions in the mental health, statutory child protection and juvenile justice fields. •Dr Donna McAuliffe, Senior Lecturer in the School of Human Services, Griffith University with research expertise in the areas of applied ethics, professional conduct, ethical dilemmas, ethical decision-making in social work, human services and allied health. •Professor Robert Bland, AM, Chair of Mental Health, School of Social Work and Human Services, The University of Queensland. Robert’s research and teaching are based on mental illness and social work practice. He has recently completed a major consultancy to develop practice standards for social workers in the mental health field. •Ivan Frkovic, Director, Mental Health Branch, Disability Services Queensland. Ivan has extensive experience in both the public and non government sectors. •Desley Hargreaves, PSM, National Manager, Social Work Services, Centrelink. Desley has had extensive experience in responding to disaster and crisis situations, at state, national and international levels, including the Victorian bushfires and the Bali bombings. •Dr Aaron Groves, Mental Health Branch, Queensland Health, led the consultation process for the development of the National Mental Health Plan 2003- 2008 and serves on several committees of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
