You are invited to a half-day Workshop, “Promoting Multicultural Inclusion in the Cairns Region”, hosted by Centacare Cairns and QCOSS on 23 June 2017.
This workshop is particularly relevant for local businesses, the public and private health sector, public and private education sector, mainstream services such as real estate agents, electricity providers, Centrelink, Job Active providers, as well as the general community.
The workshop will provide an overview of multicultural diversity in the Cairns region and include interactive sessions focused on key barriers to, and opportunities for, promoting diversity and inclusion in the community. We will be joined by Elizabeth O'Brien from Multicultural Affairs Queensland (MAQ), Ruth Venables from the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland (ADCQ), speakers from Centacare Multicultural Services (CMS), and Kamil Shah from the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS).
Sessions will include:
- What is the Queensland Multicultural Policy and Action Plan and what does it mean for our community?
- An overview of unconscious bias: what is it, where does it come from, how can it affect decision-making?
- What are the barriers to engaging and working effectively with interpreters? What tools (and other helpful hints) are there to help businesses and services work effectively with interpreters?
Please join us for a morning of learning about and celebrating our cultural diversity. The forum will be from 9am – 12.30pm with a networking lunch provided afterwards.
