Young people

Young Queenslanders are among the worst affected by the Global Economic Crisis and will remain among the most vulnerable well after the economy begins to recover. Unemployment has reached 18.6% for young people in Queensland in late 2009, and by June 2010 it is predicted that at least 27,800 young people will be looking for full time work.

QCOSS advocates for an increased focus on early intervention initiatives that strengthen the resilience and life chances of disadvantaged young people, particularly those in contact with child protection, youth justice, homelessness or poverty. QCOSS supports the representations of colleagues, such as Youth Affairs Network Queensland (YANQ) and the Queensland Youth Housing Coalition in providing a voice on behalf ofQueensland’s youth.
