Pay Equity update
Mark Henley According to recent reports, the federal government will fully fund its share of any wage increases won for SACS workers through the national Equal Pay case. At the final day of the equal pay hearings, the federal government’s advocate, Herman Borenstein SC, stated that the federal government is committed to “fund the Commonwealth's share of the burden that will flow from any decision that is given, and there is no suggestion of a limit at the figure of $2 billion”. This is potentially great news for those organisations receiving funding from the federal government affected by the future changes to the award.
As with many of the reforms and reviews happening this year, the outcome of the Fair Work Australia review of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 will be critically important for the sector. QCOSS will continue to advocate for the sector and continue to keep our members informed of any new developments through eNews and other avenues.
