Queensland Business Commissioner
Mark Henley I met this week with the Queensland Business Commissioner, Blair Davies, to discuss their mandated role of reducing red tape for Queensland business – particularly small business. This role extends to the community services sector and aligns well with the Queensland Government’s initiatives to introduce the Human Services Quality Framework and the Single Funding Agreements, which are intended to reduce red tape.
It was good to hear that each state government agency is required to have a Regulatory Simplification Plan and also that before any significant laws are introduced, government departments must complete a Regulatory Assessment Statement. This means they have to prove publicly that the benefits of regulation outweigh the imposition of doing it. ‘Red tape’ can really extend to the ‘relationship’ between government and business (profit and not for profit) which highlights the importance of the Queensland Compact. We look forward to working with Blair to progress this work.
