The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has come to life in Townsville and is already making a difference in people’s lives and our community.
The NDIS is about people with disability being part of the social and economic life of the community, and building a more inclusive community. However, this is just the beginning of the shared opportunities the NDIS brings for people with disability, families, friends, business, providers and the whole community.
In 2016 more than 80 interested people came together in Townsville to start the conversation to share what we know about the NDIS, generate ideas for action around three main streams- jobs, a place to call home, and reimagining the future. This was a first step in starting the work together - to co-design projects that make a difference and see the community working together to bring the NDIS to life.
Since this first event, the NDIS has started, and is playing a part in enabling people to live the life they want, bringing about changes in people’s lives and the community. We know there are many more opportunities and we need to work together in the Townsville community.
This event is the next part of the conversation – how is the NDIS changing lives and the community here in Townsville, what has happened so far and what have we learned, what else is needed and what else is possible?
You are invited to join us for this important community conversation to share what we know about how the NDIS is changing lives and community, what opportunities there are to build upon this, and what is needed in this next phase to turn fresh ideas into action.
People with disability, families, friends, employers and interested community members who are interested in continuing this work together to build a fully inclusive city are invited to attend.
