CREATE Foundation is the national peak consumer body representing the voices of children and young people with an out-of-home care experience. In 2013, CREATE produced the Report Card Experiencing Out-of-Home Care in Australia: The views of children and young people (http://create.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/2013-CRE065-F-CREATE-Report-Card-2013-Web-File-web.pdf).
This report card represented the first national survey recording the views of children and young people within the care system, and provided a benchmark against the National Standards for Out-of-Home Care (2011), a Priority Project under the National framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020.
CREATE’s report presented the views of 1069 children and young people on what was working well and what could be improved for their out-of-home care experience, as measured across a number of life domains.
In 2017 CREATE is undertaking another national review , and we will be seeking to gather the views of children and young people once again, in order to determine what has improved and identify areas that might still need work in the care system. From July to October 2017 CREATE is inviting children and young people with a care experience aged between eight and 25 around Australia to participate in our national study on their experiences of care.
We are seeking your support to speak with children and young people in the target group for our research. To continue to be a strong voice for children and young people in care, CREATE needs as many children and young people as possible to participate in this crucial research project.
You can provide support by ;
- Helping to raise awareness about this project throughout your networks,
- Encouraging children and young people to participate in this research and speak up about their experience of care. Some children and young people will be specifically invited by mail and phone to participate via either completing the survey online or over the phone with a CREATE staff member. Those children and young people not specifically invited to participate can still volunteer to take part by emailing [email protected], calling 3317 6020, or sending an SMS to 0402 441 621.
- Communicating your support for this project to those who directly care for and support children and young people with a care experience.
CREATE has ethics approval for this project from Bellberry, a nationally accredited Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). The final report will not contain any information that will allow identification of individuals.
