With a vision to eliminate poverty and disadvantage in Queensland, our interest in housing stems from our cost-of-living advocacy and the key role that housing plays in underpinning wellbeing.
QCOSS believes that everyone has a right to shelter. Yet not all Queenslanders have access to stable, affordable and sustainable housing.
Safe, secure and affordable housing is under significant, sustained stress in Australia. Housing affordability is in decline, there is widespread housing stress, long social housing waitlists and unacceptably high levels of homelessness.
This draft position statement outlines our beliefs about housing and our recommended actions to respond to housing affordability.
The two documents have different roles:
The QCOSS Housing Policy Review explores the background context to housing policy, comparing and integrating policy frameworks of government, peak bodies and expert researchers into a QCOSS housing policy framework.
The review provides the basis on which the draft QCOSS Position Statement on Housing is structured. The position statement will be used to facilitate ongoing engagement and advocacy on housing issues.
Please take the time to read the document or just complete the survey – it provides much of the content in the draft position statement.
