QCOSS will again be supporting regional Queensland families to help them learn about their electricity use and manage their bills through the Energy Savvy Families program.

Last week Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham launched round two of the program which will provide participating families with a digital electricity meter, the option to switch to monthly bills and access to local energy champions to help them better manage their energy costs.

The local community centre champions will provide information and advice to help people understand their energy use, access any electricity concessions they may be eligible for and get the most out of the program.

Participants will also be able to access Ergon’s HomeSmart online system to monitor their energy use, set a budget, and even set alarms for when they are coming close to budget.

Additionally, they can download the Reduce Your Juice app which uses mobile games and a series of mini quests and questions, with energy efficiency rewards, to encourage the whole family to use energy efficiently.

The program will be available to selected households in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Hervey Bay who will soon be invited to join.

Energy Savvy Families is supported by the Queensland Government, Ergon Energy Retail, CitySmart and QCOSS.
