Human Rights in Action: Reforming regulation of restrictive practices

Registration is closed for this event
Join QCOSS and the Public Advocate for Queensland, John Chesterman, as we discuss a way forward for improving the regulation of restrictive practices in Queensland.

The use of restrictive practices, often in disability, aged care and health care services, raises important legal and human rights considerations. We will be joined by advocates from Queensland Advocacy Incorporated and Queenslanders with Disability Network to discuss the impacts on service user’s rights, and how use of these practices should be best regulated to preserve and enhance an individual’s dignity.

The Public Advocate’s reform options paper recommending the adoption of a senior practitioner model to regulate restrictive practices in Queensland can be read here
