Interpreting Matters

Registration is closed for this event
This session will examine two different but effective ways to engage with CALD communities through interpreters and interpreted content.

In the first half of the session, Multicultural Australia Cultural Training Program Manager Corinne Loane and a co-presenter will present an example of their cultural awareness training program which, among other things, can assist individuals and organisations to work productively with translators, interpreters and bi-cultural support workers. In the second half of the session, UNSW Professor Holly Seale will present on the NSW Health COVID-19 Glossary of Immunisation and Vaccine Development which provides plain language meanings to complex immunisation and vaccine terms in 31 languages. Professor Seale and her team created the glossary on behalf of the NSW government to increase CALD communities’ understanding of and confidence in the COVID-19 vaccination program. She will discuss why the glossary was conceived, its development process, its effectiveness and its importance.
