Get in quick for a possible Christmas bonus

Health Care Card holders and asylum seekers have until 31 December 2017  to apply for the electricity rebate to have it backdated to January.

Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) reminds all eligible people to apply with their electricity retailers before 31 December.

“We know that people are doing it tough so having this rebate backdated will make a real difference for struggling families,” said Mr Mark Henley, QCOSS CEO.

Mr Mark Henley urged Health Care Card holders and asylum seekers to contact their electricity retailer as soon as possible to apply for the $340 per year concession to make sure they receive it backdated to 1 January 2017.

“Every little bit helps when you are having trouble making ends meet,” said Mr Henley.

“Health Care Card holders and asylum seekers will still be eligible for the rebate if they apply after 31 December but the backdating period will be finished.”

For more than 55 years QCOSS has been a leading force for social change to eliminate poverty and disadvantage. With members from throughout Queensland, QCOSS supports a strong community service sector.
