Under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy, the NIAA considers grant proposals that address a need for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Proposals must be developed with the community or group who will be impacted by the activity.
Community led means the project is supported, developed and delivered with, or in consultation with, the target community or group who will be impacted by the activity. All proposals for IAS funding should be community led.
The community led approach ensures Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are actively involved in the development and implementation of local and regional solutions, including deciding how they will be involved.
The Department will provide feedback on the proposal including whether the project addresses a priority area of need for the community or region and the IAS. This gives potential applicants the opportunity to receive feedback before deciding whether to submit an application for funding.
You can discuss an initial proposal with the NIAA at any time by contacting your local NIAA Regional Network Office, or by calling 1800 079 098.
