The Looking after Country Grant program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups with grants of up to $75,000 for projects that conserve the environment and cultural heritage on country. The program, previously named the Indigenous Land and Sea Grant program, supports on-ground environmental and cultural heritage projects and encourages collaborative partnerships in looking after country.

Project activities funded through the program include (but are not limited to):

  • cultural heritage site management
  • protected species monitoring and conservation
  • habitat restoration
  • feral animal and weed management
  • fire management
  • erosion control
  • the development and implementation of country management plans.

The 2019-20 funding round is now open and Expression of Interest applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups are invited until midnight Friday 9 August 2019.
