In 2021, Westpac are are expanding their funding program and offering a range of new grants to continue helping children, young people and their families stay safe and protected in Australia. This funding includes a mix of individual programs, research initiatives and strategic partnerships that address systems-level change across the categories below:

Impact Grants

10 seed grants valued at $50,000 each for small to medium organisations working on new ideas or one-off initiatives

6 multi-year grants valued at $200,000 each per year over three years for existing evidence-based innovative programs looking to scale

Target areas:

  • technology
  • targeted education and prevention
  • response and recovery

Apply if:

  • you are registered in Australia as a not-for-profit
  • you are looking to fund a new or evidence-based local or national project to be delivered in Australia

Applications can be for individual organisations or those applying as coalitions.

Research Grants

7 grants valued at $150,000 each, over up to 2 years, to support quality research and the development of new evidence-based approaches towards tackling the problem of child abuse, child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Target areas:

  • at-risk children and families
  • perpetrators or those at risk of perpetrating

Apply if:

  • you are registered in Australia as a not-for-profit
  • you can demonstrate prior research/methodological experience, including two previous research outputs
  • you have an interest in child rights, child abuse/exploitation related research

Strategic Partnerships Program

Collaborative child protection programs addressing the need for system-level change across two priority areas:

Priority 1: Enhance awareness on child protection, wellbeing and safety within communities experiencing disadvantage and supporting place-based responses to improve child protection outcomes

  • Phase 1: 1 grant valued at $350,000 per year over three years for a delivery partner in collaboration with an evaluation partner to support three communities to develop or expand place-based initiatives that raise awareness on child protection and safety
  • Phase 2: The delivery partner, the Safer Communities team and community stakeholders work in collaboration to identify and select three communities (rural, regional, remote, and disadvantaged metro) to deliver prevention, education and evidence-based awareness raising initiatives on child protection and wellbeing that aim to shift attitudes and change behaviour

Priority 2: Drive action on child safeguarding across Australian businesses

1 grant valued at $1m per year over three years for a delivery partner/s to form a coalition of Australian businesses and lead an agreed program of work, initiatives, and activities.

Target areas:

  • enhance awareness to empower communities families, and individuals to improve child protection, wellbeing, and safety outcomes
  • drive action on child safeguarding across Australian businesses
