Are you committed to human rights and social justice?
Do you want to use and develop your governance skills while contributing to an organization that makes a difference?
Court Network occupies a unique position in the justice system. It offers free, non-legal support to people accessing the courts. Our service is delivered by over 470 volunteer ‘Networkers’ who are trained to provide tailored support, information and referral services on an impartial and non-judgmental basis to all court users.
Since its establishment in 1980, Court Network has expanded to service all major metropolitan and regional courts in Victoria, including the Children’s Court, Magistrates’ Court, County Court, Supreme Court, Coroner’s Court, Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia, and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Since 2006, Court Network has provided services in several Queensland courts, including the Supreme, District and Magistrates’ Courts and QCAT in Brisbane CBD, Cairns and Townsville.
Court Network’s mission is to empower all court users to feel confident in accessing the justice system, particularly members of society who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. The courts are often frightening and intimidating, especially for people who are unfamiliar with court processes. Court Network helps people who would like assistance to navigate the court system or who need someone to listen and provide support. It provides a range of specialised support services, for victims of violent crime and for people accessing the Family Violence courts.
Court Network takes pride in providing its Networkers with extensive and ongoing professional development to guarantee high standards of service delivery and to ensure that the wider sector has confidence in the complementary role that Court Network plays in the justice system. Professionally qualified Program Managers are responsible for the overall management of the program; support and supervision of Networkers; and ongoing communication with court personnel and community agencies.
Call for Board Members
The Court Network Board comprises 12 Directors, who influence the strategic direction of the organization. Board members are elected for a 3-year term. We are interested to hear from suitably qualified and experienced members of our community who could contribute as a Director in the following areas:
- Financial Management
- Risk Management
- Lived experience in the courts
We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds. Experience in working at leadership levels in the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage, as would knowledge of the justice system.
Bi-monthly Board meetings are held in Melbourne. Videoconferencing is arranged for members who cannot attend in person. Board members are asked to review documents and participate in occasional additional meetings. As this is a volunteer role, there is no remuneration, but any reasonable costs are reimbursed. New Board members are provided with a comprehensive induction program.
If you would like further information, please contact Maya Avdibegovic, Executive Director.
If you are interested in applying for the role, please email your letter of interest in becoming a Director along with your CV to [email protected].
