The Sandgate and Bracken Ridge Action Group Incorporated, known as SANDBAG Inc. is an independent community based organisation that has been working within the Brisbane North community for the past 27 years.

We aim to create community connections that strengthen and support individuals, families and communities and engage with people experiencing adversity due to poverty, homelessness, mental illness, domestic violence and disability. SANDBAG works to break down barriers that exclude people from housing, healthcare, employment and meaningful connections. We assist and support individuals to access a safe space, resolve crisis, break social isolation, access health and community services, and build community.  With physical locations at Sandgate and Bracken Ridge the organisation responds to the needs of local communities by offering a range of supports, resources, services and business activities within an open and inclusive environment.

We are seeking a values-driven leader with extensive Disability Employment Services (DES) experience who can coach and guide their team to expand and continually improve our DES and NDIS (Community Linking and Access) programs.

This is a hands-on role which is envisaged to be 80% focused operationally within the DES program, and 20% wearing a second cap to oversee our NDIS program.

The position is a 3 month contract (with possibility of extension) and full time hours.

  • Provide day to day operational management of our Disability Employment Service; and supervision and leadership of our Community Linking and Access NDIS service.
  • Ensure the business units operate within legal and contractual obligations, staff follow SANDBAG policies and procedures and operate within budget.
  • With the CEO and staff, develop operational plans to deliver sustainable, values-driven businesses that exceed our clients’ expectations and deliver excellent outcomes for participants.
  • Coach, mentor and supervise staff with a focus on development of high performing community-based teams
  • Work in collaboration with SANDBAG’s Quality Advisor to ensure compliance with the National Standards for Disability Services and the NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission requirements.
  • Report on the business units with recommendations to improve their viability and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and peers as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Buildand maintain an awareness with key stakeholders of the positive contribution that SANDBAG makes to the communities that it serves.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in Disability Employment Services to achieve positive employment outcomes.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or 5+ years’ experience in Not For Profit community-based organisations and/or local/state government entities in the delivery of Disability Employment Services/ NDIS programs.
  • Ability to develop a growth strategy to expand our disability programs.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records to ensure compliance with the DES and NDIS guidelines and standards.
  • Experience in change management and leadership of service delivery team
  • Experience in staff recruitment and workforce development
  • High level of customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate – or willingness to obtain
  • Current Driver’s License and own car.
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use IT systems including Microsoft Office.
  • Working with children check and yellow card exemption or ability to aquire.
  • Completed NDIS Worker orientation module
