This is a combined position in which the counsellor provides counselling and support services within two distinct DVAC programs: Family Counselling program – child and youth focus (2 days per week) Sexual Violence Counselling within the Service Against Sexual Violence Initiative (2days per week)

  1. Family Counsellor (Family Counselling Program – Child and Youth Focus): A summary:
  • Provide specialist counselling to children, young people and women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic and family violence;
  • Provision of phone and face to face risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, advocacy, information, and referral to women, young people and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence;
  • Provide school-based delivery of services as required and as capacity allows to children and young people in designated regional centres specifically in relation to work with women, children and young people experiencing domestic violence or sexual violence where feasible and in collaboration with the Team Leader;
  • Participation in case co-ordination and case management of clients where required;
  • Participation or facilitation of group work where required.
  1. Sexual Violence Prevention Counsellors (Service Against Sexual Violence): A summary:
  • Provide specialist counselling to persons over 14 years of age (regardless of gender) who have experienced or are experiencing sexual violence;
  • Provide phone and face to face intake & assessment, safety planning crisis support, advocacy, information, and referral to women, men and young people who have experienced sexual violence;
  • Provide information and support on the court process to clients accessing DVAC. This includes supporting them to access appropriate legal advice and support for any legal proceeding relating to their experience of sexual violence;
  • Participation in case co-ordination and case management of clients where required;
  • Participation or facilitation of group work where required.
