 Job Description

Lotus Support Services role is to advocate for and support adults who experienced childhood abuse, including child sexual abuse in institutional settings. Lotus provides support in living with the lifelong impacts of trauma from childhood abuse and seeking justice via applications for the National Redress Scheme and engagement with the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with a Disability.

As a Redress Support Worker, you will work as part of Lotus Support Services team to provide flexible, timely and transparent practical assistance and emotional support to people engaging with the Scheme.

This is a fixed term full time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.

 Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed and responsive services to individuals who experienced childhood sexual abuse in institutional settings.
  • Assist with completing Redress application forms and organizing supporting documents.
  • Offer support through various means (face-to-face, telephone, video, online).
  • Make warm referrals to legal and financial counseling and other community services.
  • Support participants in transitioning to ongoing counseling and psychological care.
  • Ensure effective communication, especially with those in rural and remote areas.
  • Collaborate with other Redress Support Services and community services.
  • Promote quality and safety across all areas of work.

Essential Criteria

  • Engagement and interpersonal skills, especially with diverse and crisis-affected individuals.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge or capacity to acquire knowledge of solution-focused and problem-solving approaches.
  • Understanding of gender equality and safeguarding principles.
  • Commitment to child and vulnerable adult safeguarding.

Desirable Criteria

  • Qualification in Human Services.
  • Experience working with victims of institutional child abuse.
  • Understanding of complex trauma.
