Job Description
Micah Projects has an exciting opportunity for 2 Youth Advocate to engage in a 6 month pilot program to support young women 13- 17 years.
We are looking for dedicated and experienced Youth Advocates who share our vision of improving the lives of the young women who have experienced domestic & family violence.
Our ideal Youth Advocate will have a background in therapeutic intensive care, first aid mental health, and a thorough understanding of the dynamics and impacts of DFV. As an integral part of our team, you’ll be encouraged to utilise your passion and skills to support young women to grow, develop and feel empowered.
This is a part time fixed term employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 5 of the SCHADS Award.
Desired Skills and Experience
The role:
* Provide person-centred support to young women, 13- 17 years.
* Provide with young women with case management in developing their understanding of the impact of DFV, promote life skills, engagement in social activities and to assist to reengage with education and training.
* Work sensitively, professionally and with confidentiality when engaging with young women and their safe and protective caregiver, family and other support networks
Essential requirements:
* Employee Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
* Willingness to obtain a National Police Check
* A valid Australian driver’s licence
* A current First Aid Certificate
* A current certification in Trauma Informed Care (desirable)
* Youth Mental Health First Aid (desirable)
About you:
* Minimum nationally accredited completion of Certificate 4 and above in relevant Youth or Community Service field
* Minimum 12 months of experience working with young people.
* You must have the ability to connect and build rapport with the young people and show a genuine interest in their lives, whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
* You must have the ability to manage difficult situations and behaviours and be able to de-escalate these situations in a therapeutic way.
* You are committed to providing client-focused services with positive outcomes.
* Experience Working with high needs vulnerable young people who have experienced significant trauma and understanding how this effects their behaviour and emotional needs.
