Join ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie and industry leaders at our webinar peering over the fiscal cliff

For a long time QCOSS and the Councils of Social Service (COSS) network have been advocating strongly for a permanent increase to JobSeeker and other income support payments. As people continue to experience immense pressure on their finances during the COVID-19 crisis, adequate income support is more important than ever.

On Tuesday 21 July the Federal Government announced an extension to the COVID-19 JobSeeker and JobKeeper arrangements past the scheduled September end date, but failed to commit to a permanent increase to income support payments. They also announced that each payment would be reduced in stages over the coming months and into 2021.

We are facing an economic downturn not seen since the Great Depression. Whether we’re now predicting an economic cliff or a slope, we must ensure that no-one is left behind.

Come along to our webinar to hear Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) CEO Cassandra Goldie talk about income support payments

The event on Tuesday 4 August will examine the ‘fiscal cliff’ and what it will mean for Queensland’s social service sector.

ACOSS CEO Cassandra Goldie will be one of our panel of expert speakers.

Here’s what she had to say about the upcoming changes to income support payments:

Cassandra will be joining speakers from yourtown, Foodbank Queensland, Micah Projects and the Financial Counsellors’ Association of Queensland to discuss issues facing our community including housing, income support and food security, followed by breakout sessions guided by Queensland community sector leaders.

We’ll be sharing ideas, focussing on the impacts for service delivery, and identifying key priorities.
