Home for Good Cooktown - gathers data on overcrowding

Home for Good surveys conducted in Cooktown Shire not only allowed the community to gather real statistics, but also provided an opportunity to gather information on overcrowding. Many families live in cramped conditions with some households having as many as 14 people living in one house. With this evidence, the community can come together to think “outside the box” when looking at affordable, cost effective, long term solutions to the housing issues in this region.
The intersection between mental health and homelessness

Around the state, there are still a small minority of stakeholders who genuinely believe that homelessness is a path chosen by the person either experiencing homelessness or who is at-risk of becoming homeless. At a superficial level it is easy to suggest that a string of poor decisions has ultimately lead to the deterioration of an individual’s or family’s housing situation. However, it could be argued straight off the bat that the ability to truly ‘choose’ a life trajectory is largely influenced by a range of factors including but not limited to government policy, social and physical environment, employment, education, personal capacities and last but not least, mental health.

Gladstone has concluded their registry week with a well-attended community briefing held at Roseberry Community Service’s Roseberry House, which provides temporary accommodation for young people in crisis in the Gladstone community.
Stellar results for Bundaberg

Bundaberg Home for Good Lead Agency, Regional Housing Limited (RHL), Local Champions Graeme White, Wendy Masters, and Project Partner Chris Foley of Ozcare spent a productive morning cross-referencing case notes with the Home for Good database recording stellar results. Of approximately 100 surveys conducted during the October 2014 registry week, Bundaberg H4G has recorded positive housing outcomes for 63 individuals and families and multiple support referrals for 65 individuals and families.
