According to the latest income and expenditure data in September 2012, cost of living pressures eased over the previous six months.
Our findings show that out of our three example low-income households, two are able to afford a basic standard of living. This is an improvement on previous reports where only one of our example households was able to meet a basic standard of living.
Readers should bear in mind that our estimates of the cost a basic standard of living are very conservative. They make no provision for unexpected expenses and our example households would need a range of personal and budgeting skills to manage on such limited resources.
