The Queensland Council of Social Service Ltd (QCOSS) Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Tuesday, 5 November 2019 between 7:30am – 9:30am over breakfast at Souths Leagues Club, Davies Park, 120 Jane Street, West End.

We welcome and encourage members to attend.

At this year’s AGM there are one regional and three general board member positions available for election to the QCOSS Board.  All members are invited to consider nominating.

Over recent months the board has given significant consideration to succession planning and the requirement to have the right people driving the QCOSS strategy.

The board is aware of the need for a level of continuity, however it is also aware of the need to encourage people onto the board who can provide a rich contribution through their skills, experience and attributes.  Ultimately, the requirement is to have the best credentialed people on the board who can drive the strategy and decisions of QCOSS as the peak body for the community service sector in Queensland.  This is critical to create the positive community change required for every person in every community in Queensland.

Nomination governance

The QCOSS Board have implemented a policy that existing board members do not nominate existing or new board members for board positions.  To ensure that the process of member nominations is as transparent and open as possible.

It is important to note that to be elected to the QCOSS Board you must be: nominated and seconded by a current member organisation or individual; not be a government employee; not be a person whose primary employment is an employee of, nor a person having a controlling interest in a for-profit organisation.  Once elected you must become an individual member of QCOSS.

As an individual QCOSS member and a QCOSS Board Member your responsibility is to provide a governance role and act in the best interests of QCOSS. Board members are not on the board to represent a specific organisation or an industry view. All members of the board will work under the shared vision, purpose and values of QCOSS.

The QCOSS Board meets up to 11 times a year in Brisbane. Travel and accommodation costs for regional members are met by QCOSS.  Board members may also be required to participate on a board committee or working group. QCOSS Board Members are expected to attend QCOSS events where possible.

To nominate for the QCOSS Board, please download the nomination form and candidate election statement from www.qcoss.org.au outlining how you would contribute to the board along with a brief profile of your experience and interests. The nomination form and candidate election statement need to reach the QCOSS office no later than 5:00pm Wednesday 25 September 2019.

AGM key note speaker: Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP

We are delighted to be joined by guest speaker Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP.  Since his election to Parliament in 2010, Ken has worked tirelessly to be a strong advocate for his electorate and to help build a stronger local community.

In January 2016 Ken again made history as the first Indigenous Minister to serve in a federal government, after being appointed as the Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health. In August 2018 Ken was made Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health. In May 2019, Ken was elected for a fourth term in Parliament by the highest margin he has achieved. On 26 May 2019 the Prime Minister, The Hon Scott Morrison MP, made an historic announcement that Ken would be the first Aboriginal Cabinet Minister as the first Aboriginal Minister for Indigenous Australians.
