Changing Lives, Changing Communities - Mackay
What will it take to create a Mackay community where everyone contributes, matters, and belongs?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is here and brings opportunities to build and shape inclusive, thriving communities. Changing Lives, Changing Communities - Mackay is about bringing together all parts of the community to co-create solutions to ensure people with disability are included in their community, and can access what they need like a place to call home, good health, transport, education, and a job.
This event will focus on what we have achieved and what more we can do together.
During the two days we will discuss the stories we want to tell in our communities and how they can change the outcomes for people with disability and people everywhere. Then we will work through a process to create the movement for change.
This will be a hands-on session, drawing from the strength and wisdom in the room, to develop a vision and key actions for change.
At the end of day one, there will be a Community Marketplace where mainstream and community providers will be invited to showcase what they do and their inclusive services. We also welcome any social enterprises to be part of this exciting marketplace! See further details about the Marketplace below, or register your interest.
Bring a friend, bring a colleague. Changing Lives, Changing Communities - Mackay is your opportunity to be part of a movement for change towards an inclusive Mackay by 2030.

We know that a thriving community is one that is connected, engaged and working towards a shared vision, and a good life is one in which people can participate both socially and economically. We also know that the NDIS provides an opportunity to bring this change to life, both individually and for communities.
QCOSS, Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN)and the Anti-Discrimination Commission Queensland (ADCQ) are working together to drive social change! We want all people in Queensland to enjoy a high quality of life and have access to opportunities that make this possible – quality education, accessible and affordable housing, and transport, meaningful employment, quality health and a thriving, connected community.
Changing Lives, Changing Communities – Mackay is funded through Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) National Readiness Grants - National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) – a partnership between QDN, QCOSS and ADCQ.
About the Community Marketplace
As part of the Changing Lives, Changing Communities two-day event, we are hosting a Community Marketplace as a space to bring together people and mainstream and community providers, services and business to connect, network, discover and learn about what is available in their community.
The Marketplace will also provide an opportunity for Government agencies, providers and for businesses to showcase their inclusive services and products. Social enterprises are also welcome to be part of this community marketplace.
As funded supports for people with disability increase due to the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and people are looking for services, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
The Marketplace will be held on the first day of each two-day event from 4pm to 6pm.
All participants of the forum will be invited and the invitation will be extended more broadly in the community.
Also joining the event on 18 October from 3-6pm, the Regional Social Development Coalition will be taking a look at place-based approaches in the Mackay region.
For over 40 years Regional Social Development Coalition has been working across WHITSUNDAY ISAAC, MACKAY region to address the concerns and needs of communities through social infrastructure projects, supporting collaborative partnerships and advocating for matters of concern.
