The Queensland Council of Social Service' (QCOSS) event subsidy program is designed to provide highly discounted places to QCOSS events to encourage and increase access to quality professional development and training, particularly where registration fees may be prohibitive.
Being offered a place on the QCOSS event subsidy program means the cost of attending the event of your choice will be only 50 per cent of the full registration fee, based on the applicable rate for members or non-members. QCOSS endeavours to ensure registration fees always remain competitive and reasonable.
Approval for a subsidised place is subject to availability of places for an event, the number of applications and the strength of the application in meeting the program criteria.
QCOSS event subsidy program criteria:
a) Must be a not-for-profit organisation
b) Organisation is experiencing financially difficulties or is unable to pay the full registration cost
c) Able to demonstrate the benefit the training will have to the organisation
Priority will be given to:
- community service organisations
- organisations with fewer than one full time employee
- organisations with an annual turnover of less than $60,000
- regional organisations with significant travel costs
- organisations who have not been given a place previously, or in the last 12 months.
Note: These criteria and priorities are guides only and all applications will be considered and determined on a case-by-case basis.
Applying for a place:
The process of applying is quick and easy via a one-page online form. As the subsidised place is given to the organisation, it is a requirement that a manager or senior person supports and approves the application on behalf of an employee, volunteer or board member. Once received, a decision about the application is usually made within three working days. Applicants will be notified by email of the decision.
Registering once approved:
Once approved applicants will receive instructions, including a subsidy code number, on how to register on-line to secure their subsidised place. Approval does not guarantee a place. It is therefore important that once approved, registration is completed as soon as possible to secure the place. Some courses have limited numbers or fill quickly.
Terms and conditions:
The offer of a subsidised place is valid only for the approved event date and person/s. The subsidised place is not transferable to another course or person without prior approval. QCOSS’ Cancellation Policy, and subsequent fees, applies to all subsidised places.
Cancelling as a subsidised registrant:
As the number of QCOSS subsidised places offered are limited, and you may have been chosen over other applicants, it is important that the approved person actually attends. If the approved person is unable to attend we are happy for the organisation to send another staff member however QCOSS must be notified of this prior to the event. If QCOSS does not receive notice to cancel at least five (5) days prior to the event, the full registration fee may be charged as per the QCOSS Cancellation Policy.
About QCOSS decisions:
While every effort will be made by QCOSS to offer subsidised places in a fair, equitable and timely manner, the final decision rests with QCOSS and discussions about decisions will not be entered into.
