WorkAbility and the Workforce Council

You may be aware the Health and Community Services Workforce Council wound up last week. This is a very tough time for the staff and we wish them all the best for the future.

It is important to note that this represents a particular set of circumstances for a particular organisation and in no way reflects what is happening more widely in our sector. We are undoubtedly going through a period of immense change but continuing to gain in strength and capacity as we go. I feel like I need to say, 'be alert but not alarmed'.

We have been working closely with the Workforce Council as part of the consortia delivery WorkAbility. I can assure you that QCOSS, with the other consortia partners, will continue this work with minimum disruption. The consortia will be releasing a full statement shortly.

Drought - GIVIT

Last week we provided some information about support available for families and communities in drought-affected areas. You can still access that information here. To add to that list, GIVIT is running a campaign to support drought-affected communities. If you are supporting families or have some item that may be of use in those areas, please visit the GIVIT website and follow the links.

Changing Lives, Changing Communities

What an amazing experience being part of these events has been both personally and as an organisation. The energy and enthusiasm for change in the three communities we have visited so far has been inspiring and has lifted the energy of everyone attending. We are in the process of feeding back what we heard at these events to the communities and you will be able to see that as we publish the feedback online.

We are also in the throes of planning our October-December schedule where we will visit seven communities - Toowoomba, 10 & 11 OctoberMackay, 17 & 18 OctoberGladstone, 1 & 2 NovemberCairns, 8 & 9 NovemberMount Isa, 13 & 14 NovemberBrisbane, 28 & 29 November; and Caboolture, 3 & 4 December.

I really hope we see you there.
