Women in Queensland who are affected by domestic and family violence have had their voices heard with the release of the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC)’s report into the Family Law System Review. The report, which had four references to QCOSS’ submission, includes a number of our recommendations, including simplifying processes used by the courts for determining the division of property, clearer consequences for individuals and advisors who seek to drag out disputes, and better promotion of the best interests of the child in disputes.
QCOSS made two submissions into this review last year. The first is the Issues Paper in May 2018 and the second to the draft report in November 2018.
Our submissions focussed on the intersection between family law and the domestic and family violence system, and shared stories of lived experience from both a community sector worker and individual perspective.
