Understanding data visualisation is a critical skill for emerging analysts, data practitioners, and anyone seeking to effectively convey information using supporting data.

If you’re a data analyst, student, research officer, volunteer, project officer, evaluation lead, manager, or simply interested in learning more about data visualisation you may be interested in enrolling in one or more of these sessions.

QCOSS Research and Evaluation Network webinars are open to everyone, as they are about sharing resources and collaboration - however community service staff in research and evaluation roles are particularly encouraged to attend.

Each session is one hour long and hosted online by QCOSS and guest speakers.

Session One: Data Presentation Best Practises – Mastering the Art of Visualizing Information

With an increasing need for not-for-profits to use data for decision-making and to demonstrate the impact of their work, data visualisation and storytelling have become highly valued and transferable skills.

This webinar will focus on key data storytelling principles that not-for-profit professionals can use to turn data into captivating narratives that inspire action and drive meaningful impact. 

Join us for this one-hour webinar with guest speakers Catherine Baker (Marketing Team Lead) and Nadya DeBeers (Data Analyst) from Seer Data & Analytics.

Session Three: Communicating Impact and Purpose with Data

In session three, you will hear from community organisations leading innovative data work to address complex issues such as homelessness, poverty, and inequality. We will showcase data projects from two leading organisations working with data in the sector, unpacking the challenges they have faced on their data discovery and analysis journeys.

Hear from community services and their data leaders - sharing lessons and insights on communicating impact and purpose with data, including a focus on data visualisation and storytelling.

Guest speakers: 

  • Penny Dorsch, Project Manager and Researcher for the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), leading work on the UNSW/ACOSS Poverty and Inequality Partnership
  • Carmel Haugh, Brisbane Zero Systems Change Lead, who will unpack the role and usefulness of data for systems change to prevent, reduce and end homelessness in Brisbane.
