Human Rights Network: Supported Accommodation

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for our very first Human Rights Network meeting!

The Human Rights Network is a community services sector network for those deepening their capacity to understand human rights and apply this to their work.

It provides an opportunity to share experiences, information and resources on human rights and social justice matters within the community services sector, as well as identifying common issues across the sector to inform advocacy and submissions. Meetings offer guest speakers and discussion on a range of topics, while access to peers and experts provides a community of knowledge and experience to draw on for everyday support.

Involvement is open to anyone working in community services non-government organisations in Queensland.

January focus: Supported accommodation services provide homes for people who often have complex support needs. Many people who live in supported accommodation may live with intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, mental health concerns, and substance use. Aligning service practices with human rights is fundamental to meeting the needs, safety, and wellbeing of people living in supported accommodation.

We will be joined by guest speakers John Chesterman the Public Advocate for Queensland and Matilda Alexander Queensland Advocacy Incorporated CEO to discuss human rights in the context of supported accommodation in Queensland. The meeting will be an opportunity for attendees to provide feedback to inform QCOSS’ submission to the current Queensland inquiry into the provision and regulation of supported accommodation, which closes on Friday 2 February.
